Solar project

Our clubhouse now runs on sunshine

Early recipient of the Origin Community Cricket Fund, Boyne Island Tannum Sands Cricket Club in Queensland has installed a solar system and battery storage, and is expected to save almost $12,500 in annual electricity usage costs – a reduction of around 75 per cent.

The club plans to redirect the energy cost savings back into the local community by reducing registration fees for junior players and boosting participation among female players.

About the club

Est. 1982 and still swinging

B.I.T.S Cricket Club was established in 1982 to give the families of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands a place to play the game they love. Over four decades on, we're still a volunteer-run, community-first club built on mateship, fair play and a good cold one after stumps.

Whether you're picking up a bat for the first time or you've been bowling for years, there's a spot for you at B.I.T.S.

How we started

Where it all began

Back in 1982, B.I.T.S started with a simple goal: give the kids of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands a place to play cricket.

These photos from our early days show where it all began: junior teams in their whites, batting drills on the oval and coaching clinics in the summer sun. Some of those kids are probably still hanging around the club today.

Got old club photos or stories? We'd love to see them. Email bitscc@yahoo.com.au.

Club news · New pitches

New pitches are down!

Our members, juniors and volunteers rolled up their sleeves to lay brand new pitch surfaces in the nets and out on the ground. Better pitches mean better training and better cricket for every B.I.T.S player.

A big thank you to Leanne Patrick, Councillor, Gladstone Regional Council, for funding the new pitch project.
